Matchday 2.10: Kouris Erimis vs E.N. Thoi Lakatamias

Final Score: Kouris 1 - 1 Thoi

An away day in Limassol with an eighty-minute bus ride, and lots of rain leading up to the match made for difficult conditions to play in.

The match began, and Thoi had the majority of the ball as we tried to play on the difficult muddy and sludgy surface. We opened the scoring in the 10th minute, and after that the game became more even as Kouris picked up their performance and brought us a challange. Kouris would then go on to score from a corner in the 35th minute, and the score would remain the same for the rest of the match. Both teams had more chances, but neither having clear-cut chances as the field made it difficult. The best chances and attacking threats from both teams came from set-pieces and corners as Thoi had me, and Kouris also had a tall, aerially-strong centre-back. By the end of the game, a few players became tired from the heavy surface, and the game slowed down to long balls and clearances.

My performance was good once again, and although the playing surface didn’t suit my ball-playing characteristics, I did my job in leading, defending, and also did have confidence to play on the ground where I helped in the build-up to the first goal. The goal included contributions from me (right centre-back), our right-back, our right winger, and the goal eventually scored by our striker, all by playing on the floor with a difficult surface.
